Do you know that . . .

What is the Benemerenti Medal?
“Benemerenti” is Latin for “Good Merit” / “To a well-deserving person”
Benemerenti Medals are awarded to individuals who have merited special recognition by the Holy See. This award seldom comes more than once during a pontificate.
The Medals are Pontifical decorations instituted by Gregory XVI in 1832, and awarded as a recognition of distinguished military and civil services. They are worn on the breast, suspended by ribbons of the papal colours.

The civil Benemerenti Medal
This papal honour, the highest civilian award given by the Vatican, is conferred to men and women for exceptional accomplishment and service. It is given for distinguished service to Catholic principles, the Church and society, to people who have shown an active fidelity to and love for the Church
The award is not lightly given and is earned by sustained and outstanding witness. Although the archbishop nominates the candidates, the award is granted by the Holy Father based on merit and represent "his gratitude and esteem." The medal is a papal, not an archdiocesan award.
The award is accompanied by a certificate (in Latin).

Promoting Suzanne Aubert towared Cononisation - Sisters of Compassion Founderess
Suzanne (Mother Mary Joseph) Aubert 1835 – 1926
Founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of Compassion of Wellington New Zealand
The Sisters of Compassion have given permission for the writings of Suzanne Aubert to be used by Kilian de Lacy to write daily reflection booklets; each containing two months' reflections. (59 to 62 days)
Each day's reading is in three parts:
A short quote from Mother Aubert
A modern day community reflection by Kilian on that quote
A short prayer
Archbishop of Wellington John Dew has seen a draft for the first issue and supports the concept and the idea of a brief daily devotion guide as a pastoral tool for religious and laity.
The word count is 120 to 150 words for each day
Launch Date: 1 October 2006
We have already provided 8000 FREE FLYERS - the PDF file included with this notice has the four A6 pages of the flyer sent to several groups supporting Mother Aubert's cause toward becoming the first canonized Saint of New Zealand. The PDF file has the pages in a different order from the flyers.
Many of you would have been reading Kilian's "Holy Lives" on saints in the New Zealand Catholic. She has published five sets of "Stations of the Cross" in the Marist Messenger and several months of reflections. You maybe have read her reflections published in the North American publication "Our Daily Visitor" on which this project is modeled.
This is a request for assistance in publicising this work to your parish network to promote Suzanne Aubert's cause. We would like to provide free flyers to be sent with your next newsletter. Please advise the required numbers and date. The printed flyer is an A5 page on gold paper folded to fit a standard envelope.
Thank you for your help toward the cause of Mother Aubert.
Regards
Kilian de Lacy & Bruce Twidle

Letter to Priests and Parishes
Greetings and every blessing
The Diaconate of the Hamilton Diocese has constructed a website with the blessing of Bishop Denis as a point of contact among Deacons and which you are most welcome to view.
The web address is www.diaconate.co.nz
To keep the Diaconate, and others who visit our website, up to date, we have established a News Page on the site which is updated regularly.
We publish our own news and information and also canvas international Catholic news sites daily for up to date news and information from the Catholic world, with particular reference to Australasia
We would like to extend an invitation to your parish or office to post news and information on this news page
If you would like to use this new publication channel please email: david@davidrossmedia.com
or michael.ryan@clear.net.nz This will also help to keep the diaconate up to date.
The site also has a Prayer Request and Intentions page which you may care to use, where people can request prayers: and to which the Diaconate responds daily. We also present Prayers of the Faithful midweek for the following Sunday and pieces of interest titled "Why do Catholics" based upon Catholic doctrine or customs or tradition.
Please be assured of our prayers and good wishes.
Sincerely in Christ.
